San Francisco's Port: Smart Solar Lighting for High-Traffic Parking Lot

San Francisco’s Port: Smart Solar Lighting for High-Traffic Parking Lot

The Port of San Francisco just got a major upgrade with the installation of SUNLIKE 30W solar parking lot lights. This brand-new installation called for SUNLIKE 30W to deliver key illumination to a high-traffic area, brightening up the Exploratorium and KGO-TV parking lot with energy-efficient, reliable, and low-maintenance solar lighting. Partnering with electrical contractor Bay Area Light Works, this solar lighting solution enhances safety, visibility, and sustainability in one of the city’s busiest waterfront areas, frequented by tourists, employees, and media personnel.

With thousands of visitors daily, the Exploratorium and surrounding businesses required a lighting solution that delivers optimal performance without the hassle of trenching or increasing electricity costs. The SUNLIKE 30W solar parking lot lighting solution was selected due to its high photometric performance, seamless lighting reliability, and minimal maintenance requirements—an ideal fit for a site that operates around the clock.

Efficient Lighting, Smart Energy Management

The system was programmed with an energy efficiency mode that adapts lighting levels based on demand. During peak hours, brightness is maximized for full visibility, while after hours, the system dims to conserve energy, extend battery life, and minimize light pollution— a crucial feature for tenants and public works teams.

Reliable Performance in Overcast and Coastal Weather

San Francisco’s weather can be unpredictable, but the SUNLIKE 30W solar lights excel even in overcast and rainy conditions. With advanced LiFEPO4 batteries and MPPT controllers, the lights maintain consistent output, maximizing solar energy harvest. Supported by SOLTECH galvanized poles, these (24) new solar parking lot light installations have proven effective in coastal settings, overcoming challenging weather patterns.

For port maintenance crews, ease of installation and upkeep was a key factor. Without a need for underground wiring or extensive infrastructure changes, the lights were installed quickly and efficiently. Their all-in-one design eliminates frequent maintenance concerns, providing long-term savings for the city.

This project demonstrates how solar parking lot lights can enhance public spaces while reducing energy costs and environmental impact. SUNLIKE 30W is a scalable, adaptable solution that can be replicated across other high-traffic urban areas, setting a new standard for modern, self-sustaining parking lot lighting.
